The Egremont Fund

The ICC is a not for profit organisation and a self-supporting, viable operation. The Club is in the position where it breaks even every year, which includes a realistic depreciation policy. This allows us to spend in real terms approximately £40k each year to maintain and enhance the organisation.

The ICC and its membership is strong and healthy, which is why at this point we are turning our focus to Egremont, to maintain the clubs floating base in order for future generations to enjoy this unique sailing experience.

Egremont has regular dry dock inspections in a 5 to 6 year cycle, which has shown that she remains fundamentally sound below the waterline. With continued regular maintenance and repair, her hull is good for many years to come. However, the layout and facilities put in place in 1976 are now outdated and unsuitable for todays requirements. For example, we only have one set of showers per gender, which are used by both adults and children.

The upper deck accommodation (built in 1976 with a life of 20 years) is reaching the end of its useful life and is in need of serious work in the near future. Other aspects of the ships infrastructure, such as plumbing and wiring, need a complete overhaul. New portholes are required to keep Egremont watertight and improve appearance.

Changes to the layout of the ship are needed so that Egremont is better suited to todays requirements and future legislation.
Plans are to demolish the upper accommodation and rebuild a new structure, also to relocate the bar/saloon and office facilities as well as providing additional showers and toilets. The lower deck is to be revamped so as to provide improved and additional accommodation.

The club team has embarked on a mission to raise funding to finance the multitude of jobs that need doing, but which we quite simply would struggle to find the extra money for. Whilst we could borrow money, we know we do not generate enough income each year to repay large sums and are reluctant to get into debt.

We are in the process of getting detailed costings from relevant companies and the committee estimates that to reconfigure and refit Egremont to the extent we would like, would cost in the region of £600,000, however, even with a small number of donations, work can commence. This is a big ask, but we believe the purpose and viability of the club justifies the support and will allow Egremont to continue to play its major role into the future.
