A. We suggest you bring the following:
- Waterproofs – it is essential that all sailors bring a waterproof jacket for use when sailing. Waterproof trousers are also an advantage if you have them. This applies even if you are using a wet suit.
- Change of footwear (Deck Shoes or Trainers which you don’t mind getting wet)
- Swimwear and towel
- Wetsuit if you have one although we have plenty available if not.
- Shorts to wear over wetsuit (essential if using an ICC wetsuit)
- Sun hat or baseball cap
- Sunglasses
- Sun tan cream
- Water Bottle
- Your sailing logbook if you already have one
- Toiletries – Please note aerosols are not permitted as they set off the fire alarm
- Money – Meals are included but there is a vending machine on board (coins only).
- A change of clothing, including a warm top. Please note denim trousers are not permitted for Sailing. Residents should bring plenty of changes of clothing and a plastic bag for any wet clothes
- A small bag or rucksack in case we go for a day trip
- Please note we do provide bedding for residents but not towels
- Please pack luggage in soft bags, as there is limited storage space aboard.
Note: Please ensure all possessions are clearly named
A. We suggest you bring the following:
- Waterproof clothing - a must and should be strong enough to stand up to cruising conditions. We can offer them for hire, or you can purchase them from us – both need to be arranged well in advance. If you need any advice, please do telephone us.
- Bedding - sleeping bags & pillows are provided but you may bring your own if you wish.
- Clothing - bring plenty of warm clothes (it is very much cooler at sea than on land and it can be very cold on night watch, even in high summer). Gloves, a warm hat and towel for your neck are also a good idea. There will be little or no chance of visiting a laundry so bring sufficient changes of clothes for all weather conditions and going ashore. Non-slip shoes and Wellington type boots (not black soled) are also essential.
- Toiletries and personal items - these should include soap and towels, high factor sun/windburn cream, anti-sea sickness tablets or bands, your logbook, some Euros will be useful if cruising to France though sterling notes can be changed in most ports. Cash machines are widely available and will accept Visa, Mastercard etc.
- Passport - (if completing an RYA course it is extremely unlikely you will need a passport). Passports are required for all Members who may visit the Channel Isles, Europe and/or Southern Ireland. (Holders of non-EEC Passports may also need a visa to visit the above places). Failure to bring your Passport may result in the cruise itinerary being changed or Members not being allowed to sail, so if in doubt please bring your Passport. You are also advised to bring along your EC Health Form E111 available from your local post office. On group bookings, the group leader (person booking) is responsible for ensuring all group members understand this stipulation. Please note that the Club is unable to refund any money should a booking have to be cancelled for failure to bring your Passport or the appropriate visa.
A. Please telephone the office immediately if you think you have left something behind as we only keep lost property for a week before disposing of it. We can either hold the item for collection or there will be a handling and postage charge for any items you would like us to return.
